24 March 2018Beth Tweddle: On her best and worst holidays, 'I have an affinity with South Africa'
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?
I went to South Africa in December 2014 with Andy and we had the most wonderful time.
As I was born there, I have an affinity with the country.
We went to Cape Town, which is really buzzing. At the top of Table Mountain, we were lucky with the weather and had amazing views.
We drove and flew along most of the Garden Route and did a three-day safari in one of the smaller parks, staying in a lodge and experiencing amazing wildlife.
AND YOUR WORST?
I’ve never had a bad holiday as I always research wherever I am going.
The only time weather was a problem was when I went on a three-day trip to Croatia and it rained for two of the three days.
A wooden dish with carvings of animals which we picked up in South Africa.
My fiancé is very keen on collecting fridge magnets, so wherever we go we have to pick up one of those.
BEST HOLIDAY READ?
The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins, which I read in Dubai last December during a five-day break.
I tend to read novels recommended by friends or sports autobiographies.
It is the only time I get to read really.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?
I love to sit and chill by the pool and read a book, but I have to do some exercise. I’ll often go to the hotel’s gym or do a bit of swimming before breakfast.
Since my accident on The Jump two years ago (when I fractured my neck) I’ve had to be a bit more careful.
We always try to eat out in local restaurants and explore the area.
WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?
I’ve trained in Romania and Austria but you never see much of the place when you are competing.
I’m going on honeymoon in three months’ time but I will only find out where on my wedding day!
