Beth Tweddle MBE

Britain's Greatest ever Female Gymnast

4 June 2013Former Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle shares sporting insights with York College students

She went to university with Jamie Salter, a sports tutor at the college, who has kept in touch with her as she has gone on to represent her country across the world, as well as winning the eighth series of Dancing On Ice earlier this year.

Yesterday, Beth met students taking the extended diploma in sport and exercise science and in sports development, coaching and fitness, as well as students from the college’s foundation degree in sports therapy.

During her presentation in the Sim Balk Lane site’s lecture theatre, Beth – who was awarded an MBE in the 2010 New Year Honours list – relived her own sporting achievements and spoke about how she has worked with sports therapists and sports scientists to improve her gymnastic abilities and medal prospects, while she also involved students in basic warm-up activities and coaching.
