11 June 2013Wincham Community Primary school in Northwich will welcome Olympic gymnast
Organisers of this year’s Wincham Community Primary School summer fair are delighted to have the three-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist present at the event on July 13.
Youngsters were overjoyed to hear that the MBE would be visiting their school this summer, with the school’s PTA and headteacher equally as excited.
“The whole village is at a complete standstill each year when the summer fair takes place,” said head teacher Diane Palin. “This year we’re delighted to have Beth Tweddle here to open the fair and spend time with the children and parents.
“The school has always ensured that participation in sport plays a key part in the children’s curriculum, so we hope that having an Olympian attend the fair will be an inspiration to those who participate in gymnastics or any other sport.”
As well as opening the fair at 1.30pm, Beth will be on site to sign autographs and pose for photographs until around 3.15pm.
Two lucky pupils will get the chance to get up close and personal with one of the country’s greatest athletes, with the school currently running a competition to interview Beth at the fair.
The school’s PTA have also organised an action-packed array of stalls, games and entertainment. Live music, a birds of prey display, petting zoo, stilt walks, musical theatre displays and a whole host of other fun activities will be available.
Hot food will be provided by Got The Munchies outside catering, while Pickmere’s Red Lion pub will sponsor the entire event. St John’s Ambulance, Cheshire Police and Wincham Parish Council will also be there.
Volunteers are still needed to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible.
