At next week’s Artistic Gymnastics World Championship, Great Britain will be looking for success both on and off the gymnastics floor as British legend Beth Tweddle MBE aspires to join the prestigious International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Athletes' Commission.

The FIG Athletes' Commission features six gymnasts, who have been voted in by their peers to contribute to the development of the sport. Beth has been nominated for the women’s artistic gymnastics position on the commission.

Recently retired from competitive gymnastics, Beth holds an outstanding catalogue of achievements spanning three Olympic cycles, her accolades include three World and six European Championship titles and her crowning glory - Olympic bronze in London 2012.

The first British woman to win Olympic, European or World Championship medals, Beth is considered to be the most successful British gymnast of all time. The opportunity to contribute to the sport at the highest level, is an important role that provides the perfect extension to her stellar career:

“Gymnastics has and always will be, a massive part of my life. This role is a great way for me to stay involved and assist gymnasts from around the world. I want to reach out to all gymnasts, be their voice and ensure they have the best possible performance environment to achieve their dreams.

I first competed at a major championships back in 2001 and have many years of experience, both on and off the competition floor. I have built up fantastic relationships with other nations and their gymnasts and feel I can make a real and measurable difference.

It would be a massive honour to join the FIG Athletes' Commission, to represent my fellow gymnasts and the sport of gymnastics. Gymnastics has been my passion for so many years and although I have retired competitively it will always remain close to my heart.”

Gymnastics Federations vote for positions on the commission on October 3rd, during the World Championship in Antwerp.
